JB came in today to meet with Nadine, our Nutrition and Health Educator. We call these one- on- one meetings, SFS Shopping 101. She was eager for this conversation since she signed up to access the Food Shelf earlier this month. She came in with a list of questions which Nadine felt could be answered with another walk through the food shelf. JB felt that little walk was very helpful and led to more questions about for example, how might she use more beans. Back in Nadine’s office, she shared some simple recipes which utilize beans.
While JB came prepared and had done a lot of thinking about using her limited food resources (she knew exactly how much she could spend on food), she was very thankful for the opportunity to talk through some other tactics, gain recipes and confidence in eating well. She loves the Good & Cheap cookbook we gave her and was thankful for the $15 gift certificate. These are our gifts to someone who schedules a time to meet with Nadine to learn how to best utilize the food shelf and while stretching their limited resources.
JB is definitely an example of someone who will thrive by utilizing this facility during a currently difficult time.
